The Solar System

The sun, with all those planets revolving around it and dependent on it, can still ripen a bunch of grapes as if it had nothing else in the universe to do.

Galileo Galilei

The solar system consists of:

    • the Sun
    • the eight official planets
    • at least three "dwarf planets"
    • more than 130 satellites of the planets
    • a large number of small bodies (the comets and asteroids)

The inner planets in the solar system are:

    • the Sun
    • Mercury
    • Venus
    • Earth
    • Mars :

T he outer solar system are:

    • Jupiter
    • Saturn
    • Uranus
    • Neptune
    • ( Pluto is now classified as a dwarf planet)

The asteroid belt lies between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter
